Operating Budget Election-Starting with the August Topeka/Manhattan Area Meeting the 2009 Budget will be presented at all area meetings. The Election will be held on October 9, 2008 at the Kansas City General Area Meeting at 5:30 pm. Note: Members will have the opportunity to cast their votes at all area meetings. Members can also request an absentee ballot be mailed to them.

Member News

4^th Annual Float Trip – is scheduled for Saturday, September 6, 2008 at 10:00 am. The float trip will start at R&W Campground in Lebanon, MO. Primitive campsites are available with showers. Cost is $10.00 per member and $20.00 for nonmembers. Camping is $3.00 per person. Contact Dan Elliott for more information at 417-234-6702.

The Greater KC Labor Day Parade will be held on Labor Day (September 1, 2008) starting at 11:00.Local 12 will have float in the parade. Contact the office if you would like to participate. After the parade a Celebration is scheduled at the Liberty Memorial with many activities planned.

Columbia/Jeff City Annual Picnic will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at 5:00 PM. The picnic will be at the shelter house in the park in Ashland, MO. Food, drinks and picnic supplies will be provided.

Local 12 Annual Sydney Whitfield Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at Adams Pointe Golf Course. Registration deadline is September 1, 2008. The tournament is open to anyone who wishes to participate. Play will be 4-man scramble with an 8:00 AM shotgun start! Contact the Local 12 office to register for the tournament.

Reminder: The Local 12 office is still missing Death Benefit Information Forms from several members and retirees. The Local 12 office cannot obtain beneficiary information from the benefits office due to the Protected Health Information policy. Contact the Local 12 office if you need a form.

All construction, hole drilling and modernization jobs that last 3 or more days are to be called in to the Local 12 office.

Apprentices

Mandatory Apprentice Class Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at 5:00 pm. 2008-09 class policies and procedures will be discussed. Class rosters will be posted at that time. Attendance will be recorded. Classes will begin the following week.

Mechanic Exam is scheduled for Thursday, September 4, 2008 at 8:00 am. Letters will be sent to all apprentices who requested to sit for the exam

Apprentices-remember to continue submitting your monthly work process reports during the summer months.
